PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Let’s be honest – nobody gets excited about tubes. But this isn’t just any tube. This is the bit that makes your glass balustrade actually work.
The workhorse behind stunning glass balustrades
We’ve been fitting these for years, and there’s a reason we keep coming back to this design. It just works. The slot is perfectly sized for standard glass panels, the steel quality is spot-on, and they look bloody fantastic when installed.
What’s so special about this tube anyway?
It’s the little things that make all the difference. The slot is machined just right – not too tight that you’re fighting to get the glass in, but snug enough that everything stays put. The edges are properly finished too, so you won’t cut yourself during installation (trust me, that’s more important than you’d think).
We’ve gone for 316-grade stainless for a reason. It doesn’t rust, even if you’re fitting it right by the sea. I’ve seen cheaper tubes start showing rust spots within months. These ones? Still looking pristine years later.
The finish is consistent too – whether you go for the satin or polished option. No patchy bits or manufacturing marks. Just clean, professional-looking steel that makes your whole project look high-end.
Why buy from us?
Look, I know you’ve got options. There are plenty of places flogging stainless steel tubes. But here’s the thing – we actually use these ourselves on our installation jobs. We wouldn’t sell something we wouldn’t use.
When you ring us, you’ll get someone who knows what they’re talking about. Not some call centre reading from a script. Need advice on which fittings to use? Want to know if it’ll work with your specific design? We’ve probably done something similar before and can tell you straight if it’ll work or not.
We keep good stock levels too. Nothing worse than getting halfway through a job and finding out a part is on backorder for 6 weeks. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. That’s why we make sure we’ve always got these tubes ready to go.
The full package
You’ll need a few other bits to complete your balustrade:
Slotted Cap Rail Joiner – Connects lengths of tube seamlessly
Slotted Cap Rail 90° Corner – For turning corners without bodging it
These are made to the same standard as the tubes – proper job, no corners cut.
Ready to order?
If you know what you need, crack on and order. If you’re not sure, give us a bell. We’d rather spend 10 minutes helping you get the right stuff than have you order the wrong thing and waste everyone’s time.
Common questions we get asked
Will these rust if I use them outside?
Nope. That's the beauty of 316-grade stainless. It's got molybdenum in it (try saying that after a few pints), which makes it resistant to salt corrosion. We've got these installed on seafront properties that get battered by salt spray, and they're still looking mint years later.
Just give them a wipe down with soapy water every now and then to keep them looking their best. If you're right on the seafront, maybe do it a bit more often. Bird muck can be a bit nasty if left too long, but it wipes right off.
Can I fit these myself or do I need a professional?
Depends how handy you are, to be honest. If you've done similar jobs before and have the right tools, you'll be fine. You'll need a decent drill, proper fixings for your substrate, and ideally a mate to help hold things while you fix them.
The trickiest bit is getting everything level and properly aligned. Take your time with the measuring and marking out - that's where most DIY jobs go wrong.
If you're not confident or it's a complicated setup, get a professional in. It'll cost you more upfront but save you headaches (and probably money) in the long run.
Do these come in different sizes?
Yes, we stock a few different diameters. The most popular is 42.4mm, which looks right for most domestic installations. We also do 48.3mm which some people prefer for commercial jobs or larger spaces.
The wall thickness is 1.5mm as standard, which gives you a good balance of strength and weight. The slot width is designed for 10mm toughened glass, which is the standard for most balustrade installations.
If you need something different, give us a call. We might be able to sort you out with a custom order.
How do I cut these if they're too long?
You can cut these with an angle grinder fitted with a thin stainless steel cutting disc. Go slow, use plenty of cooling, and wear proper PPE - the edges will be sharp and hot.
For a cleaner finish, a chop saw with a proper stainless blade is better. Again, take it slow and keep the blade cool.
If that sounds like too much faff (and I wouldn't blame you), we offer a cutting service. Just tell us what lengths you need, and we'll sort it. There's a small charge, but it's worth it for the time saved and the clean finish you'll get.
