Stainless Steel Balustrades for Commercial Buildings

With April’s World Health and Safety at Work Day quickly approaching, there’s no better time to consider the benefits of stainless steel balustrades for your commercial building. Not only are they a great way to ensure the health and safety of everyone using your commercial property, but they can also look great and inject all kinds of personality into your building.

If you’ve been considering stainless steel balustrades for your commercial building, or even if this is the first time you’ve ever heard of them, then you’ve come to the right place. We’re sharing everything you need to know about balustrades and how they can be an excellent solution for any staircases or balconies in your commercial property.

Why Should I Choose Stainless Steel Balustrades for My Commercial Building?

There are many great reasons to choose stainless steel handrails for your commercial building. For starters, they’re incredibly durable and robust and much less prone to breakages like wood and other materials are. Stainless steel has a high tensile strength, which ultimately means they are next to indestructible.

They’re incredibly easy to maintain. All you will need to do to get rid of any surface marks is give them a simple wipe. They’re also reasonably affordable, being both a cost-effective material and cost-effective to install.

Perhaps best of all though (besides the obvious safety benefits), is how great they can look and how the versatility can inspire some fantastic design potentials. With a stainless steel balustrade, you can add a strong sense of contemporary sophistication to the inside or outside of any building.

Our Different Balustrade Systems

We have several different balustrade systems available, able to perfectly suit any situation or design. These include:

  • Semi-Frameless Glass Balustrade: Semi-frameless glass balustrades can be easily installed on any decking, patio, or balcony areas and create a great open plan look to your outdoor space.
  • Professional Post And Rail:Professional post and rail is the ideal solution for anyone looking for the above, but with the added benefit of a handrail on top.
  • Infinity Balustrade: The infinity balustrade is the perfect slim and stylish solution to creating a seamless and immersive open space.
  • Spigot Balustrade: A spigot balustrade is held in place from the ground and is the ideal system for decking and glass swimming pool railings and anyone looking for a totally clear and unobstructed view from their project.
  • Stainless Steel Handrails: Stainless steel handrails are the perfect mounted wall handrail and provide a touch of both sophistication and class.

What Laws And Regulations Must Commercial Buildings Follow?

It’s essential to ensure the health and safety of everyone who’ll be using your space. Therefore, several key regulations have to be followed when it comes to the railings in your building. These include:

  • All staircases, ramps, and landings must have a continuous handrail along both sides.
  • If your building is likely to be used by children under the age of 5, then the gaps between your balustrades should not be large enough to fit a 100mm sphere.
  • Your balustrade guarding should be designed in such a way that any young children will be discouraged from climbing it.
  • Handrails should extend no less than 300mm between a flight of stairs’ top and bottom riser, as long as it’s not obstructing an access route.
  • All handrails should have a centre line between 900mm and 975mm above the stair or ramp’s pitch line. Any balustrades around landing areas and balconies should have a barrier 1100mm above the finished floor level (FFL), with a centre line between 900mm and 110mm.
  • A handrail and its adjacent wall must have a minimum gap between 50mm and 75mm.
  • There must be no fixings on any handrail that could cause an obstruction for someone’s hands.
  • Any circular handrails should have a diameter no less than 40mm, and no more than 50mm.
  • Any buildings designed for children should have a second handrail 600mm above the finished floor level on a pitch line or ramp.
  • Return edges on a handrail should be directed towards the floor to avoid any clothes becoming snagged.
